I picked up some very beautiful leaves yesterday while I was out walking with the intention of drawing and painting them. I think this Virginia Creeper leaf is one of the loveliest leaves I have ever seen.
A Sycamore leaf. For reasons that totally mystify me 'real' artists are not supposed to enjoy detail. It seems they are supposed to gaze off into the distance and squint until everything is a blur. Good job I have no aspirations to be one of those then, or I might have missed these!

You're real enough for me, Felicity! Beautiful photographs too. Looking forward to your drawings/paintings.
Someone, who shall remain nameless, pulled out all of our Virginia Creeper this summer because he and our neighbour were afraid of the wasps it was attracting. Now the birds won't have their winter banquet of the berries and I'm going to have to hunt for leaves.
What beautiful images, I love autumn colours. I'm with you re. not missing out on the joy of detail like this. Sycamore leaves? We have masses of them dropping from a huge tree in our garden, bit of a pain to keep clearing up. Maybe I'll have to draw some ...
You have helped me see something I was missing Felicity. Thank you!
Gorgeous leaves!
Real artists create art. Some love detail and some don't. But I don't think a real artist would let other people's rules guide them. ;)
Seeing the beauty beneath your feet is an art in itself. :)
Thanks Robyn! That reminds me, there is a similar someone here who pulled ours out a couple of years ago!
Thanks Janet, I hope you do!
Thanks Rose, that sounds very interesting!
Thanks Rita, totally agree with you!
These photos are inspirational. And I also really enjoy working in fine detail at times - it can be intriguing and somewhat soothing!
WOW...just look at all the fantastic details and colour! You ARE a real artist who happens to notice the finer details. I love to do that too.
Just amazing - I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like it. As for the real artists don't enjoy detail bit - bah! The more I become involved in designing my own work, the more I have zoomed in on details in what I see around me. Thanks for sharing these.
so many colors in one leaf. it's the beauty in the details that so many miss seeing.
Thanks ladies! :)
Beautiful...would love to see more..

Felicity, you are such an amazing artist! I have been meaning to tell you how much I admire your sense of detail and color. Your botanicals and portraits are really so perfectly done! I think I haven't seen something I didn't like that you have done!
