A couple of weeks ago I had a look in the window of the Christian Louboutin shop in town and I was totally bowled over with his designs! The window designs are fabulous and each shoe looks like a little work of art, carefully displayed. Going in there, I can imagine feeling like Willy Wonka entering the chocolate factory! Sadly, I don't have the confidence to pull these off, but hey, I can draw them and dream!
A few days afterwards I saw a photo of Debbie Harry in the exact same pair. Very much her, I thought, very 'rock chick'. But when I Googled them to find the name - they are called 'Lady Clou' - I saw a load of other singers too, in descending order from Lady Gaga and Kylie Minogue, sporting them! I remember someone telling me they didn't like to shop in Marks & Spencers because they didn't want to seen in the same clothes as every other woman in the street. Well, now every female celebrity has to been seen wearing Louboutins, I'm not sure how that differs! (Not that I would pass off the chance to strut my stuff in these, you understand!)
The shoe was not nearly as much fun to draw as to look at though, as I've written on my other blog. I'm still nervous about tackling certain subjects in watercolour but I think this might have been a lot easier and faster if I had. The Polychromos pencil I used for most of this, Burnt Carmine, was a nightmare - very easily smudged and it stained the paper. I put this in my Winsor & Newton sketchbook and I expect it will have smudged right off the next time I look at it!
