Black Redstart

I was delighted to see a family of Black Redstarts yesterday. (I'm not good with bird names, I know that because the male is quite distinctive with it's black head and red tail so I was able to find it in my bird book!) I wasn't really expecting to see them again but today the female left the chick on the patio outside the kitchen while she went off to catch insects for it. He sat patiently for 45 mins as she went back and forth!

Aren't they so funny when the parents look smaller than the fluffy chicks! What a great shot. :)

Thanks Rita - yes, my thoughts exactly!

I'm not familiar with Redstarts, but I do have a little red cardinal who lives in my backyard. I enjoy him very much. Will you be painting your birds?

Katherine, I'm not sure yet - I tend not to draw or paint the photos I show on the blog (it's just me!). I've only seen Red Admirals in photos, they must be amazing to have in your backyard!

This is such a wonderful photo, Felicity. I had to come back for a second look.
