Bird doodles

I posted this little watercolour of a kingfisher over on my other blog, Sketches by Fiz. I feel the title of that blog is slightly misleading because I post my best work over there and everything, including sketches, over here! So, the cropped version was posted there but this, below, is a little section of the page I'm working on.

I started with the woodpecker and intended to do a page of little birds in a sketchy nature journal style. I liked the little woodpecker peeping up from the bottom of the page but somehow the kingfisher ended up looking much more realistic and finished - quite bizarre when it wasn't intended! I lost a bit of momentum after that but I thought I would scan it and post it now just in case I ruin the rest of the page!

WOW...I wouldn't classify these as just doodles....they are fabulous and like finished paintings...and very realistic. You are so talented, Felicity. I LOVE kingfishers...excellent work!

He's adorable! Well-done! I like the minimal background. I need to learn that. I tend to overdo the background and it detracts from my subject. Yours is perfect!

Thank you Sioux!

Thanks very much Robyn! It's still very hit and miss so this one surprised me - I just hope it's not all downhill from here! ;)

Thanks Serena! They were intended to be doodles but I got a bit carried away! The photo was taken in Queensland btw!

Thanks Katherine! I always try to avoid backgrounds but mainly it's because I'm hopeless at them!
