More TV sketches. I'm aware these are probably not as interesting to look at as the colour portraits but I find these so useful to do. I'm really out of practice as I haven't done much drawing over the Christmas break - the boys aren't back to school until next week - so these are done on 'pause'. Even so, I find I'm looking for the essential elements to get down quickly, training myself to draw faster. Above, top, a Palestinian face, and below him, a contestant from Mastermind.

Appearing on Celebrity Mastermind were Mick Hucknall of Simply Red (there is a great photo of him on there that reminds me of my drawing of Paul) top, and below him, comedian Mel Smith, who I thought looked in pretty poor health.

Not much to show for myself is it? I started a new little sketchbook, the same type that I use for the TV sketching to draw things around the house. The sketchbook feels just right for the faces - it's about 6"x6" - but the smoothness of the paper and the feel of it are somehow not right for the other sketches. Maybe I'm too fussy but I have to have a sketchbook that feels appropriate for the subject, either something that I want to put my best work in or something I'm happy to make a mess of. Above, a brass tray and candle holders. Mark got this in Norway and it looks lovely when the candles are lit but it's showing it's age now.

Another quick sketch, of my new fave bag. I bought it in Mulberry in London in the sales - it does feel lovely to have a good bag! Apparently it's called a Soho and like most things I have, is in chocolate brown! Anyway, I started both these little drawings with the intention of putting more things on the page but I think I need to try another sketchbook.

You know, I can totally relate regarding the sketchbooks. I too have more than one on the go and one "good" one that I do more detailed "finished good work" in. And some that are just for doodles or light sketches. I have one just of coffee mugs/cups for cafe outings.
I really enjoyed viewing your sketches. I LOVE your purse. I want one! It is fun to do quick sketches off the television too. I find that the news is better when you are not pausing it. I cannot pause because my guys would go nuts on me. LOL.
Anyhow, keep up the excellent work.
I agree, the more we sketch, the more particular we get about sketchbooks. Seems I have one for many different things.
Whether you have color or not, I love looking at what you are doing.
Someday I hope to be a fly on the wall and watch you do these -- they're always fabulous!!! Your shading just blows off my socks!
Thanks ladies!
Ana, Teri, I have quite a few sketchbooks on the go but I'm finding it harder and harder to keep track of which one is which now!
Lin, I wouldn't be able to draw then! ;) Probably why I can't draw in public!!
Bags seem to be the bane of my existence....I can NEVER find THE one that suits ALL my needs. lol Wonderful sketches ~ :)
