They paved paradise...

The local route I take to the shops has to be the most boring stretch of road in Geneva. Nothing but long stretches of hedges or concrete walls. Every time I go out I think there must surely be something I can draw, something I've missed because it's so quiet it would be an ideal place for me to start getting in the habit.

Well, today something new and exciting appeared! So exciting I nearly missed it. Can you see it?

Here is a close up. I'm not sure I could do it justice...

You could do a day in the life of a little twig, and every day show its growth. One day there will be a budding leaf I suppose. That will be exciting I am sure.

What about taking some wild flower seeds and scattering them about. Might be fun to see what occurs in the spring.

Cool! Amazing how nature can find a crack in the concrete, isn't it? I like Robin's idea....guerrilla beautification...you could be Geneva's Miss Rumphius!

The trick will be for it to survive being snapped or pulled. At least you have given it some credibility here, and I hope you can chronicle its life.

They paved paradise indeed. I really liked your photo. Simple, but powerful! Great post too!

I love it. Such a force to live in a seed and it can fight against such obstacles. I once has a weed start to grow through asphalt on a roof beneath my window. After awhile I just had to pull it up and plant it in a pot. It lived its season out.

Robin, I love that idea. As you can see today, this poor twig probably won't make it but you showed me a different way to think about it.

Joyce, I had to look that name up! What a lovely story!

Sandy, yes, that was my thought, seeing it so exposed. In fact I don't think it made its way through the concrete, I think, incredibly, that it was planted without protection as it is newly paved and there was a little round hole for it.

Thanks Felicity and Annie. Yes, too many obstacles, it needed protection.
