Life drawing

I was hoping to concentrate on hands and feet today but that wasn't easy with this pose! Oh well. I was determined however to do two or more drawings today so at least I achieved that goal. I got a little more caught up in the shading than I wanted to, trying to make that twist in the back work, so I set a time limit and stopped myself.

A quick sketch. I quite enjoyed the first drawing and my concentration went a bit off with this one. Initially I drew the face but it was so strange (from gravity and being squashed) that I rubbed it out again. I didn't have time to improve on this or I would have tried making those feet look better. B pencil.

Good work, Felicity. How long did the model hold the pose?

Oh Felicity! I just love the shading on the top one -- even if you did spend more time than you'd planned! The twist in the back is perfection!

You're very good at capturing the way light plays on things! I have to share this one with you because your drawing reminded me of life models. My teach recently had an exhibition of his work. He paints almost exclusively, nudes. Well his models turned up to the opening night completely starkers. Wandering around with a glass of wine. The chap had a mohican hair do, all his body hair was shaved, he was covered in tatoos and had his nether region pierced. I'm told there was an awkward atmosphere!

Beautiful life drawing, Felicity! Love the shading and play of light on the top one.

Rainbow, that certainly would make for an awkward atmosphere. Was your teacher expecting the model to show up starkers like that?

Felicity, please excuse me using your blog to answer Linda and yourself! Yes, I believe it was arranged so the life models would be there for all to see. Perhaps it was a sales gimmick - I'm not sure. I suspect people divided into 2 camps; those that ran away rather quickly with prior engagements, and those that turned away and stared intently at the paintings. I don't think he sold anything on this occasion - but there again his paintings sell for £5-6,000 and dear old Leam can't rise to that for my teachers particular style of nude. (I'm tying myself in knots here - Felicity knows what I mean because she's seen the work....I might put a link on my blog if you want to check it out for yourself)

Lovely, Felicity. Incredible shading on the first one! I understand what you mean when you talk about getting too caught up in the shading, good that you can limit yourself. I can drive myself crazy when I start on a drawing that turns into something more complicated that I had planned...
