I think my age was in single figures the last time I drew a dog! I really don't like drawing hair so this was a bit of a challenge. I'll look for short haired dogs next time but I suspect I'll go back to cats first! Even though I used softer pencils than normal (2b and 3B), I still think it could do with more contrast but I'll put it away now and forget about it for a while.I procrastinated a lot with this one (so much hair!) gave it up for a few weeks and then lost my rhythm so I didn't get a lot of drawing done over the break. I started a couple that I will finish and post soon. Last year I said that I don't make resolutions (except to eat more chocolate which I most certainly did!) but this year I feel the need for some changes so I have a couple of, not resolutions exactly, but things I'd like to aim for. I don't want to say what they are though as one of them is to stop beating myself up so much and if I fail that is what I'll do! One that I can mention though is that, inspired by David Malan, I will keep up the sketching by drawing faces I find in magazines and papers and try and concentrate on the more extreme values. There are two free papers here that I pick up when I'm out and even if I don't find anything suitable, the artistic muscles are still being exercised, so that can't be a bad thing.

I can see where this furry fellow's hair could be quite challenging - but Felicity -- you've succeeded so well!! He looks fluffy and soft and like I could run my fingers over his coat and it would tickle me!! SUPERIOR JOB!
this Yorkie is fabulous, you captured him perfectly - I constantly see that good art is so much about Light and what is left untouched and you display this perfectly.
Sandy
Felicity, I think your little dog is perfectly gorgeous and full of personality. Love it!
Awwww -- he's so cute! And you did him perfectly! Wow, what a sweetie!
Holy! Wow, this is fantastic!
I could send you a picture of my black labrador - short hair and since she's black, not much detail in the pic. I'm grinning big time here!
Yes, resolving not to beat oneself up so much is a good one. I had words with myself about that just this morning.
Eat more chocolate! LOL I think I could do that one! I'm with you, new years resolutions did not work so well for me last year so I'm trying something different this year. Each month I'm setting a couple of goals for that month. Just one or two measurable things.
Your little puppy dog turned out wonderfully!
Happy New Year Felicity!
This is so great. I wish I had so much endurance. How long did it take to finish the picture?
Soft! This is the best drawing of soft silky fur I've ever seen. He's beautiful! Have his owners seen the drawing. It's priceless! Thanks for the link to the Malin's websites (I followed his to his wife's and she's wonderful and very versatile too. I'm glad you want to be kinder and more gentler with yourself. That can only lead to good things.
Another corker Felicity. He looks very cute! AND as for choccy, well I've quaffed my way through nearly £100 worth since the middle of December (oh, the shame!) and put on 6 lbs, so have embarked on the usual post Chrissy diet. I just can't believe how daft I can be sometimes! All the best for a very happy and healthy 2007 to you and your family.
You are so patient! This is very beautiful
Actually I quite like the limited values. Nice work on your site and I hope to see more.
Wonderful drawing, and I hope I am getting warm when I see where your goals are headed. I can't wait to see.
Hi Felicity. To answer your question aabout how I work with colored pencils. Yes the pencils do dull the black line. I don't go back over the lines. I try to do it as much as i can like a coloring book. It must be when I scan them in and adjust the color in photoshop that sharpens up the blacks i guess. But I don't do anything special. Nice Yorkie.
Thanks very much everyone!
Sheila, yes please, that sounds like fun!
Joyce, I think that's a great idea! Hope you don't mind, I'm going to try that - I might stand a chance of keeping them!
Nik, I'm not sure as I did it in fits and starts but they are quite time consuming. A good few hours all in all.
Annabel, yep, I've got the same problem and so far I've managed to keep off the chocolate this year :(
Bexrex, welcome and thanks for visiting, you have an great blog (there goes the resolution!)
Robin, I'm curious as to what you think - probably more exciting than anything I have in mind!
Thanks a lot Tommy.
