This mornings life session (at the Strip Club as Alex calls it!) flew by so this is all I got done. I was drawing yesterday so I thought I'd be OK but I felt rusty. I would normally have just left this and started again but for some reason I kept with it and eventually it looked better. I went over the outline later with a 5B pencil I bought on the way home. I felt very nice and smudgy so I'll be trying it out in the future.

One of the reasons I didn't get much drawing done over Christmas was because I was trying to read Anthony Ryder's book cover to cover but I kept getting the urge to draw! But I really wanted to read the book so I doodled from his illustrations instead to keep me focused. The mouth at the top is an exercise in cross hatching. The feet are from a larger drawing but I love the way he is able to get so much information about the muscles and tendons in such a small area. This was an attempt to copy his style. I quite like the look of this very subtle way of cross hatching and I tried to do it at the life class. But two and a half to three hours isn't really enough to get that level of detail or finish, certainly not to block-in and all the rest.

Thanks for all the nice comments after my last post - I'm feeling a lot more positive now! In fact, I was thinking that I had acheived quite a lot since Christmas. I've finished painting my room and it makes a huge difference to the light in there! It's quite a bright room and the yellow glow was blinding! I've also lost weight. I don't like to diet but I have cut out a lot of carbohyrates, cut out the chocolate (completely!) and sugar and I'm limiting myself to three cups of tea a day maximum. I certainly feel a lot better for it! Suddenly I have a lot of things I'd like to draw but I'd like to get back to doing the little drawings I did for the challenges, they were fun and quick to do and drawing shoes was something I said I'd do a while ago. I think they will be fun to look back on in the future.

Felicity! Your drawings are so awe-inspiring! The shoe -- I can slip my foot into it -- and those slips -- I expect them to open and speak! And the foot -- stepping away for sure .. incredibly glorious work, my friend!
Just simply gorgeous!!! You do such a wonderful pencil drawing! Gosh!
beautifully hatched! :P
Beautiful Felicity! Your soul comes out in every thing you draw, whether from life or from a book. Would love to watch you do it.

I like the sense of volume you've got with both of these. Nicely done.
