EDM # 102

EDM challenge # 102 is to draw a power plug and as with all the challenges to journal a bit about it. I think I've only once done a challenge in the same week it was posted (the toothbrush) but this appealed straight away because the plugs here in Switzerland are very unusual. I must say it irritates me that power supplies and things like plugs and televisions are not standardised the world over. I don't travel anywhere without a hairdryer and when we came to Geneva for a few days visit last year, I had to search the duty free shops for a suitable adaptor - I'm very fussy about my hairdryer requirements and even the swankiest hotels can have cheap and nasty things that resemble leaf blowers!

The sockets too are like nothing I've seen elsewhere. Mostly they seem to have three sockets together and are placed anywhere on the wall. In our house at least, only two out three seem to be active. We also have a socket and lightswitch unit on the wall where there is normally just a lightswitch. The switch is divided in two so one will switch on the light and the other, well, I'm not really sure what that's for but some of them turn off the power to the plug. Very strange!

Felicity -- that is the strangest looking power plug. Are all three prongs rounded? The world WOULD be much easier if power plugs were universal worldwide -- I guess we should count ourselves fortunate that they are at least the same countrywide!
