Life drawing

Last Friday's life class. Unusually I only got two sketches done this week. I tried to 'block in' the figure as Anthony Ryder recommends in his book and wasn't too comfortable with it but obviously I will need to practice it.

The first one I decided I liked as a line drawing so I choose another angle and did a bit of shading on it. I must say, I don't think this is the nicest pose I've seen but it's all practice isn't it?! 2B pencil on cartridge.

Interesting negative shapes, though! I think you're doing really well with your figure drawings, Felicity. It's not easy to draw quickly or to suggest big areas with your subtle and elegant linework.

I agree, your linework is elegant and yes, it's the practice. But hey, the figures are so good :)

Wow! These are really interesting. I like that dark linework. Is that what you mean by blocking in or is that about first getting the overall shape of the pose (triangle/square, etc.). The one at the bottom seems absolutely perfect. I loved your photos of the Christmas bazaar.

I'm interested to hear more about what it means to "block in" too...when you get a chance.

These figures look so accurate - I think you're doing beautiful work. It's always difficult to change approaches. I've ordered Anthony Ryder's book as well, but somehow I don't think the method will work as well for me...
