Grace, Paul Grace

Yes, it's that lovely boy again! I haven't really finished it but at this stage I need to put it away for a couple of weeks and forget about it. I've made his nose looks a little bulbous, poor thing and I didn't sort out that left eye to my satisfaction but I think it's Good Enough. I might even forget, with my bad memory, what I think are it's faults - one of the benefits of old age! Although I worked on it in fits and starts, a little disappointed that I didn't get it done as fast as I'd planned, I found an old portrait of Paul in the pad I was working on. It took many months and as I looked at it with a magnifying glass (!) I couldn't see my pencil marks. I really was a hopeless perfectionist. This one is much more rough and ready but I don't like it any less so I guess I can take comfort from that. It was done with mostly 2B pencil and some HB and 2H.

Gorgeous! I love how you take care of the reflected light on the nose, the cheek folds and so on. Wonderful work. You can and should be very proud!

Jaw dropping is the word. Goodness, this is so good. Of course, i've never seen Paul so i am not acquainted with his features. Only you know about the nose and the left eye. Bravo!

This is STUNNING! AS to the bulbous nose, I think you are being a bit too critical! After all, at the age he appears to be, boys go through a bit of a stage where they aren't quite grown into their features, to me, that is the age he appears to be. Put the silly magnifying glass away( I know that was the first drawing, but you are still using it!) step back and enjoy your BEAUTIFUL work!

He's darling and this drawing is super! You have such a sure hand and it's getting surer by the day! I'm so eager to see what you come up with next, you pencil master, you!

Felicity,

How precious...I just want to pinch his cheeks:-). You captured that youth that I'm sure your working so hard to bottle up and keep in...I feel the same for my oldest son, they grow up way to fast! Breathtaking, as usual!

This is fabulous Felicity! Just brilliant. :o) You are SO talented. I've enjoyed all your recent posts too, even though I haven't commented on each individual one. :o) Totally agree with your thoughts on rules and regulations in art.

Thanks for those super comments! Tami, I changed the wording on my post after reading your comment - I meant that it looked bulbous because of the way I drew it :-0 ! The glass is not something I normally use, it was amongst the pencils on my desk and when I discovered this old drawing in the pad I remembered how I use to try and hide my pencil marks. Even through the glass I couldn't find them. I'm amazed even now I had the eyesight to do that!! Now I shall put that thing away!
Mommy bee, you're right, I wish I could keep it in! They seem to be growing up faster with every passing day!

Predictable if nothing else Felicity - DD1 just happened to be looking over my shoulder when I pulled up your blog and exclaimed - "Ooooh who's that mum? he's rather nice" The disappointment when I told her where you live was just as predictable :o)

Felicity -- what a wonder you are! And HOW in the world do you draw so that the pencil marks aren't visible under a magnifying glass??? I didn't even know that was POSSIBLE! Wow. It would be something for those of us with ZERO patience to try. This is awesome.
