Did I say that?

Did I really say that the garden was boring?! The first thing I want to do when I get up in the morning now is check how the plants are doing! No two days are the same, there is always something new to see or discover. These Crocosmia (I'll forget that again in five minutes from now!) popped up in the rockery this week. They are one of my favourites and that colour combination of red, orange, purple and green is another!

The rose bush is bursting with buds again. We're buying more this week so this bed will be full of roses.

The garden is teaching me to be still, look and listen. I had never watched a spider making a web before, or rather I had looked briefly and thought I knew how a spider made a web. If you've never done this, you really should! It's amazing to see the spider making the general structure and then building it up with such precision. That tiny little thing has a purpose and it just gets on with the business. The web gets destroyed by the weather, debris, us and it just starts all over again. No ifs, buts, what's my motivation here?, is it art?, is it the best? angst that we humans have!

The first rule in acquiring a new garden: watch it for a year to see what is really there, what thrives, what struggles, what you like, what you hate, where the sun is, where the frost pockets are, ... living with the seasons can be bliss (but watch out for those dastardly weeds!)

The garden will certainly reward observation. I had never seen so many different spiders before we came to this house which has water at the bottom of the garden. With my husband's occupation being in computing I thought of calling the house Web End!

Crocosmias are wondrous plants, and come in a range of reds and oranges too. What is even better is that they look after themselves and return year after year to give stunning displays. Crocosmia Lucifer is my favourite: it is the tallest and the reddest, and seeing sunlight through its leaves is a joy.

Wow, just love your photos. The colors just pop. You are as talented with a camera as you are with a pencil!

I have been taking a bit of time to get some summer projects completed. Thank you for your support and glad you stopped by. :)

Thanks for the reminder about being still and taking time to smell the roses and watch the spiders. It must be fun seeing everything grow and bloom for the first time in your new home. I've never seen a better picture of a spider web--this one is huge and the lighting is amazing.
