EDM # 44 Draw a cat

This drawing came out of the blue yesterday morning (it's quite tiny, drawn in my small Moleskine). I remembered a photographer's name that I meant to Google and found a fantastic photo and I just had to draw it. I just adore cats like this and this is a beautiful profile. Copyright makes me very nervous so I have only drawn the head, but the whole photo is breathtaking. I came across his book last weekend and found it on Amazon for a fraction of the price. It set me thinking about what makes photography 'art'. It's something one can't put into words but you just know it when you see it - and this man is an artist IMHO. The book is a little treasure and (for 384 pages) costs the princely sum of £6! I feel an early birthday present coming on!

Great cat...beautifully executed too. I might try a photo, because my cats are hard to draw, one is solid black and one has dark color over his eyes and white below...so his eyes get lost every time I attempt to draw him. Maybe that means I should try him in watercolor instead of pencil. :-D

Beautiful drawing, as always, Felicity. You really know how to get it right with a pencil!
And you got me a little curious about the photographer and the book. Any names?

Wonderful cat, makes me want to try drawing my own, if only they'd sit still long enough.

What a wonderful drawing of the cat. They are so hard to draw, and you got the muscle, the bone structure, and the textured fur. Great drawing.

You are alright with copyright if what you have done is sufficiently different from the original (e.g. Las Meninas by Velasquez and by Picasso) - as would be the case with a drawing from an original photograph. Also, if the source is acknowledged, then it is obvious that no theft of image was intended - just the opposite in your case.

This head feels alive - I can just imagine stroking the jaw, if allowed.
