More photos

More photos as the connection is holding out! They say in Switzerland that anything that isn't compulsory is illegal so I won't say how I'm getting a signal except that it involves a wire coat hanger and a frying pan pointing in the right direction...Anyway, the picture above is a sign on the border between France and Switzerland (Veyrier church just behind). People just walk and drive over there freely but if you are shopping you must have a Something/Nothing to Declare sign displayed in your car. They are fairly strict about how much food you are allowed to bring in from France (it's cheaper there) - each person has an allowance and if you are buying for four, then four people must be in the car!

The local mayor's office.

A building in Veyrier. I notice many houses have plants growing up the walls. It looks wonderful, I can't wait to see it when starts growing again. Spring has arrived very suddenly and today was very warm. Only a few weeks ago we had loads of snow.

The same building. I like how the door seems to be morphing into the stone.

One view of the town centre. Veyrier is actually fairly big and mostly residential but it must have grown out of this little centre.

Lovely pix. I'm drooling at the thought of the macaroons: I have not had any decent ones for many years. I prefer them really gooey in the centre and softly crisp around the exterior, and gently warm too ... ggglll.
I had a friend years ago who lived in France but worked in Switzerland at the ILO. A good way round she said. Certainly lots for you to explore and draw. I hope that you enjoy your stay.

What a pretty town -- and so different from Kuwait! It must be a bit of culture shock for you!
:-)
So glad you're able to post these photos -- keep them coming!

Felicity, I've just read all the recent posts. Thank you so much for telling your story. You've come a long way from Kuwait, that's for sure! Good luck with your classes and your figure drawing group. I look forward to following your progress on all fronts!

Felicity, that photo of the door and the stone building reminds me of the photos of Sean Scully. I have his book and can't get enough of looking at it. Thanks!

I just stumbled on to your blog. Very interesting. I love the photos, especially the door with the window. When I went to Barcelona, I took lots of portal pictures. I want to make a quilt about them some day.
Such a different world from mine in Alaska.
Thanks for sharing.
