This week's challenge is to draw some folds in fabric. I knew I'd find something in Alex's room, probably on the floor! When Alex steps out of his jeans, he leaves them in the middle of the room just like this, as if he has vanished into thin air! I liked the label too - loose fit - it seemed very appropriate.
I shaded this with a B pencil as the HB's are beginning to feel hard. It felt lovely as if it was a stick of charcoal, and shading is so quick with it. The only thing I don't like is that it smudges so easily but even that is nice to smudge the shading with my finger.
Now I'm going back again to a couple of drawings that I'm not enjoying (unless next weeks challenge is more tempting!). It's been interesting doing these challenges and finding out which subjects I like and dislike. I've surprised even myself!

Felicity, Your folds turned out great - like the jeans had just fallen on the floor.
Yes, I would imagine that some challenge subjects will appeal to some people but not all. That's why I try to vary it so that if it's a textural object sometimes it's soft, sometimes hard, sometimes mechanical, sometimes organic. Sooner or later everyone should get a topic they like. And as you say, if it's not likable it's interesting to find out why ...
Felicity, this is beautifully rendered. Also, I love your image of vanishing into thin air -- so funny! Your photos and comments in other posts about life in Kuwait are just fascinating.
Wow! This is excellent work, Felicity! The texture, shadows, and details are all fantastic. The texture of the jeans is so fine, it looks as if you've blown some graphite dust on the paper for this drawing! It's awesome.
Oh no! My boyfriend does the same thing with his pants! When he comes home from work and changes into something more comfortable he basically drops his draws where ever he sees fit. Usually the bathroom or office. On rare occasions he'll drop'em right there in the living room and step right out of them for a laugh- exactly like your picture! Now its more of a joke than a nuisance!
Felicity, this is awesome. I have been waiting for you to do this challenge as I knew it would be great. You are such a master with the pencil!
I like your garlic too, but I couldn't get through the verification letters.
VERY well done. Great stuff. And a sense of humor (anything "folded" would be in an anything goes teenager room). Thanks for sending us to your site. I bookmarked for my morning blog-crawl and latte.
This is superbly done Felicity. They drawing looks almost real. This must have taken you ages to do, it's so detailed. Well done. In admiration....
felicity- i am always blown away by how competent you are with your pencils. i always feel so awkward with the pencil, and it's one of my preferred mediums. you (as always) did a wonderful job!
Felicity. Your work is always so awesome! I love how the jeans are "posed"; pulled down and stepped out of! very clever.
Felicity, this is great! The detail is just wonderful.
Real excellent work, I thought the real trousers were here.

What a fabulous job you did on this illustration. I could step right into those jeans. My Alex too, leaves his jeans just like that in the middle of the floor. Hmmmm, does this mean both of our Alex's have the same genes? :)
Wow, what an amazing drawing....and I love the subject....perfect way to remember life with your young son. They grow up so fast!
Wonderful work! So smooth shades and so much details!
WOW! Lovely, lovely!
wow. . .
Outstanding! I like the garlic from the previous post too.
